Since there’s lots of new Marvel fans coming into the world (hi there!!), I thought it would be a cool idea to get a post circulating where people reblog comic recs to help newbies get into things.

Here are mine. Help me get this around by reblogging with your own suggestions!

I started reading general Marvel U stuff starting at Avengers Disassembled and going forward from there, since it’s difficult for me to find comics that are pre-bendis era. I still really enjoy the first run of New Avengers, it’s a nice starting point for a lot of other books, and i’m pretty sure if gives a brief rundown on the characters involved.

Forever recommending the Runaways, it’s a different take on the whole super-powered teenage hero angle(a more realistic view of what would happen). Young Avengers is like that as well, but with them taking the more traditional route. Avengers: The Initiative is what happens when you take teenage hero’s and try to give them standardized military training, and Secret Warriors takes it to the extreme, taking teenagers and making them black-ops secret agents bound to no one but the ex-top cop of the world in an attempt to fight HYDRA and other big bads with no morals. So if you’re more into the teen hero type books, there’s a nice gradient that you can choose from.
