Since there’s lots of new Marvel fans coming into the world (hi there!!), I thought it would be a cool idea to get a post circulating where people reblog comic recs to help newbies get into things.

Here are mine. Help me get this around by reblogging with your own suggestions!

616, Knights and MAX Story Arcs:

• Marvel Spotlight Vol. 1 (33 issues, published through out the the 1970’s - great way to get grips on a lot of characters!)
• X-Men: Dark Phoenix Saga (I would personally advise the trade that’s been published and then if you like it, the story has footnotes that explain things from earlier issues if you want to back-research)
• X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills
• Captain America & Bucky

• Punisher MAX (specifically Volumes 1-3: In the Beginning, Mother Russia, Kitchen Irish)
• Punisher: Welcome Back Frank

• Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. (1960’s), Nick Fury vs S.H.I.E.L.D. (80’s) - I strongly dislike the second ‘Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ series from the 80’s but if you want a few laughs, it’s fun.
• Black Widow: The Things They Say About Her
• Black Widow: Web of Intrigue
• Joss Whedon’s Atonishing X-Men series
• Spider-Woman: Agent of S.W.O.R.D.
• SECRET WAR (BOLDED FOR ALL OF THE EMPHASIS. This is seriously my absolutely favourite thing Marvel has ever produced. I keep it under my goddamn pillow.)
• Secret Warriors (is an awesome series, but requires reading and/or knowledge of Fury’s character, so read stuff from the 60’s and 80’s and Secret War first)

Ultimates Stories:

• The Ultimates Volumes 1 & 2
• Hawkeye (4 issue miniseries)
• Galactus Trilogy
• Ultimate Iron Man (prequel to Iron Man in Ult. continuity, written by Orson Scott Card. I’m masochistically in love with it.)

• Ultimate Spider-Man (YOU BETTER READ THIS. MILES MORALES IS THE BEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ULTIMATES OKAY.)
